Dulux Avista Resurfacing Base Compound is a decorative concrete coating suitable for application over existing cured concrete surfaces. It can be tinted to a range of colours by adding Dulux Avista Colour Oxide.

Do not apply in temperatures below 10°C as curing time is significantly delayed. It is not advisable to apply onto very hot surfaces (greater than 40°C) as this can affect cure. Under very hot conditions shading the area may be required.
Dulux Avista Resurfacing System is a decorative coating only. Cracks in the concrete base may reflect through & future movement in the concrete substrate may also result in cracking in the resurfacing system.
After sealing it is recommended that the sealed surface be protected from:
Actual time frame may vary depending on weather conditions and coating thickness. Check suitability before allowing traffic.
Surface Preparation
Preparation of the area is extremely important to ensure good adhesion. Failure to properly prepare the surface can result in failure of the Dulux Avista Concrete Resurfacing System. Ensure concrete is sufficiently cured (recommended minimum 14 days) & structurally sound. Any previous coatings must be removed by grinding, stripping or sand blasting. If surface contains non structural cracks, grind out and filling should be undertaken with Dulux Avista Crack Repair Kit. Additional saw cuts may be required to help reduce stress on the slab & minimise the chances of future cracks appearing. Future movement in the concrete may cause cracks to appear that may affect adhesion and could result in chipping of the resurfaced coating. Concrete is to be clean and free of grease, oil, paint or any curing agent. Stiff broom and general purpose cleaner recommended. Any oil stains should be treated & cleaned with an industrial degreaser. Pressure clean surface at a minimum of 3000 PSI. Acid etch with hydrochloric acid. Dilute approx 20 parts water to 1 part acid (depending on porosity) to remove any loosely bound cement and laitence. Note: smooth concrete will require a higher acid content. Maximum strength - 10 parts water to 1 part acid. Pressure clean immediately at minimum 3000psi to clean and remove all remnants of acid (do not allow acid to dry on surface).
Masking and taping
Ensure all surfaces surrounding the area to be sprayed, including grass and plants, should be covered or masked and taped. Expansion joints cannot be filled with resurfacing compound. Joints should be taped or filled with rubber or foam and removed before final spray.
Priming
The area is primed with Dulux Avista Resurfacing Primer. 1 part Resurfacing Primer: 3 parts water by volume. Apply evenly on a damp surface by broom, roller or sprayer. Do not allow primer to pool. Allowing primer to dry in a pooling area can affect adhesion. The first coat of Dulux Avista Resurfacing compound should be applied while the primer is still wet.
Add required amount of clean potable water (3.6 - 4.0 L).in a clean 20L bucket and add Avista Resurfacing Colour Oxide and mix thoroughly with mechanical mixer at low speed until mix colour is uniform.
Slowly add Dulux Avista Resurfacing Base Compound, mixing continually.
Once full content has been added, mix for a further 3 minutes. This step is critical in activating the polymers to achieve an even consistent mixture.
First coat should always be applied to a damp, primed surfaces. Applicable to all trowel or squeegee application methods.
Squeegee/Trowel application (recommended for first coat)
Pour a manageable quantity of Dulux Avista mixture onto the damp, primed concrete surface. Use squeegee or trowel evenly spread the resurfacing compound over the surface.
Do not exceed a thickness of 4 mm per coat, as this may lead to shrinkage cracking.
Subsequent trowel or spray coats can be applied to achieve desired decorative finish.
Spray application
Application will require a moisture trap air compressor & hopper gun. Recommended minimum compressor specs: 12 cfm with a 70L tank.
Add mix to hopper, ensuring not to overfill - recommend half full.
Before applying to surface, spray on separate fibro test board to obtain desired texture. Adjust pressure to vary texture.
Spray evenly across the surface, holding the hopper approximately 600mm from the ground.
Once area has been completely covered, allow to dry sufficiently to walk on.
Minimum 2 coats at total of minimum 3mm thickness required to achieve sufficient wear factor.
The Dulux Avista Resurfacing System must be sealed once the surface is completely dry. Options for sealing include:
- Dulux Avista General Purpose Sealer (S/G or matt)
- Dulux Avista Extended Wear Sealer
- Dulux Avista 2 Pack Urethane
- Dulux Avista Polyaspartic Sealer
