Precautions and limitations

Practical spreading rates will vary from quoted theoretical figures depending on substrate porosity, surface roughness, overspray losses, application methods and environmental conditions (eg. wind).Do not apply paint if relative humidity is above 85% or temperature is within 3 degrees of dew point. Do not apply if the surface temperature is greater than 30 degrees or below 10 degrees during the application or drying period. Dry times apply to a single coat at recommended spread rate at 25 degrees and 50% relative humidity. Protect from dew, rain and frost for 48 hours when applied at the recommended spreading rate. Allow longer times under cool, moist or still conditions or when applied at high film builds. Avoid application in hot, windy conditions or on hot surfaces. Application techniques should be adjusted to achieve the recommended DFT and finishing standard.

Surfactant leaching from exterior coatings
Occasionally, clear or white spots / streaks are seen on a newly painted surface within the first few weeks after application. They usually appear after light rain or overnight dew and generally are located in sheltered areas or areas of limited sun exposure. Under normal conditions surfactant contained in the tinted paint colour is slowly leached to the surface and washed away by rain leaving no trace and is a normal part of the drying of any water based exterior paint.Under certain atmospheric conditions, the surfactants leach to the surface and leaves clear or white deposits upon drying. The clear / white surfactant deposits cause no down grading in performance or durability but do affect the appearance. They can be easily removed by washing with warm soapy water and rinsing with fresh, clean water. Under severe conditions they may reappear once or twice until ll the surfactant has been removed. It will be less noticeable each time and can be removed in he same manner as before. The coastal are is considered a marine environment and as such salt can potentially shorten the life of a coating. care needs to be taken to wash the surface twice, thoroughly, before painting Once to remove surface contaminants nad to bring salts to the surface, and secondly to remove the salts before coating.

Performance guide
  • Weather: Excellent resistance to cracking flaking and chalking.
  • Salt: Resists salt spray
  • Heat Resistance: Up to 90 degrees (dry)
  • Water: Contributes to moisture barrier properties of a complete system
  • Solvent: Resists alcohol and aliphatic hydrocarbons. Sensitive to ther strong solvents
  • Abrasion: Good resistance to abrasion
  • Acid: Resists dilute acids
  • Alkali: Resists dilute alkali
Surface preparation
Previously painted surface

• All surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned and free of all dirt, dust, grease, loose or flaking paint.

• Efflorescence or mould on masonry or concrete surfaces must be treated before painting.

• New concrete, mortar and cement render must be allowed to cure for four to eight weeks depending on concrete thickness and drying conditions.

• Fill holes in masonry with grouting cement.

• Wash down with water with a stiff brush to remove all loose material.

• Check the adhesion of previously painted surfaces by cutting an X through the film with a sharp blade, press cellulose tape firmly across the cut and rip it off.

• If the old paint comes off with the tape it should be removed before repainting.

How to apply
Brush, Roller

• Stir well with a broad flat paddle using an up and down scooping action.

• Apply two generous coats of Dulux Weathershield® Render Refresh.

• Apply three coats on all unpainted surfaces.

• Work quickly from an unpainted area into a wet area to minimise brush marks.

• When applying on very porous surfaces, thin the first coat with up to 100mL of water per litre.

• When painting windows, use sparingly on contact areas.

• Open windows within 30 minutes and again two or three times in the first 24 hours.

How to dispose responsibly
Unused paint
Unused paint: Do not pour leftover paint down the drain. Unwanted paint should be brushed out on newspaper and allowed to dry, and then disposed of via domestic waste collections. Empty paint containers: Leave empty paint containers open in a well-ventilated area to dry out. When dry, recycle the container via steel can recycling programs. Disposal of empty paint containers via domestic recycling programs may differ between local authorities. Check with your local council first. Do not reuse container unless thoroughly decontaminated.
