Surface preparation
Previously painted surface

Aged or lightly rusted metal surfaces: Remove any rust by scraping, sanding or wire brushing. Wipe surface with Metalshield® Brush Thinner to remove any residual grease, oils and dirt.

New bare steel: Wipe surface with Metalshield® Brush Thinner to remove any residual grease, oils and dirt. Ensure the surface has thoroughly dried prior to application. Do not apply on top of existing painted surfaces other than Metalshield® HB Primer as a touch up.

How to apply
Brush, Roller

Before spraying: Shake can well for at least two minutes after the ball starts rattling and regularly during use. Lower temperatures and high humidity will slow the drying and affect the gloss level. Avoid spraying when air or surface temperature is below 10°C or above 30°C.

During spraying: Hold the can upright 10 to 25cm from the surface. To ensure surface compatibility, test spray on inconspicuous area. Spray with smooth even strokes, parallel to the surface. Apply several light mist coats rather than one heavy coat, which can cause runs and sags.

After spraying: Prevent blocking by turning the can upside down and spraying until clear gas emerges. Also wipe front of nozzle clean. Clean up overspray while it is still wet with mineral turpentine.

How to dispose responsibly
Unused paint
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place and and away from oxidising agents and corrosive materials. Protect from sunlight. Store away from sources of heat and/or ignition. Do not expose to temperatures exceeding 50°C. Unused paint: Spray unwanted paint onto newspaper and allow to dry, and then disposed of via domestic waste collections. Empty paint containers: Empty aerosol cans are recyclable via steel can recycling programs. Disposal of empty aerosol containers via domestic recycling programs differ between local authorities. Check with your local council first. For more information on responsible disposal of paint and packaging visit paintback.com.au or painttakeback.co.nz
