About Intergrain UltraClear Interior Matt

Intergrain UltraClear™ Interior is a high-performance, water-based clear coating designed to protect and enhance interior timber while preserving its natural appearance. Ideal for modern interiors, it provides a durable, low VOC and low-odour^ finish that helps maintain the true look of light timbers without yellowing over time. It brushes on white and dries clear to ensure even coverage so no spots are missed. Suitable for a wide range of interior applications including walls, ceilings, doors and windows, UltraClear™ Interior is especially effective for design-led spaces where maintaining a clean, natural timber finish is critical.

Precautions and limitations

^Compared to solvent based products
*Drying conditions of 25°C and 50% relative humidity. Cooler or more humid conditions will increase drying times

Surface preparation
Previously painted surface

Bare or new timber

Sand the surface smooth using 180 - 240 grit sandpaper. Sand only in the direction of the grain. Remove all traces of sanding dust.

Previously treated timber

Clean surface with warm water and household detergent. When dry, check for adhesion by applying Intergrain UltraClear™ Interior to a small test area. Allow to dry for twelve hours then firmly press a strip of sticky tape over the coated section and rip off quickly. If the coating is removed, sand back to bare timber and remove sanding dust. If the coating is not removed by the tape, continue forward. Note: If the existing finish is wearing back to bare timber, it must be thoroughly removed by sanding before continuing.

Important: Ensure the timber surface is dry and free from all dirt, dust, wax, and oils. Nail holes and surface defects should be filled with Intergrain WoodBlend™ wood filler after the first coat of UltraClear™ Interior. Do not use linseed oil putty.

How to apply
Brush, Roller

Stir thoroughly before and during use with a flat blade stirrer. Do not shake or thin.

  1. Apply three coats of UltraClear™ Interior with a quality synthetic or pure bristle brush, or roller, or spray (air-assisted or airless).
  2. Take care to apply sufficient product to edges and end grain. Maintain a wet edge to avoid lap marks and an uneven finish. When applying by brush, apply in the direction of the timber grain where possible. To aid application, soak the brush or roller in water and remove surplus before loading with UltraClear™ Interior.
  3. Do not overwork the product as this can result in a poor appearance. When spraying ensure adequate film build is applied to achieve maximum durability. It is normal for UltraClear™ Interior to have a milky appearance when first applied which disappears on drying.
  4. Allow a minimum of two (2) hours drying between coats. If required, sand lightly with a fine grit sandpaper to remove any raised grain.
  5. If coating large surfaces in warm conditions, wash the brush, roller, or spray machine out at regular intervals to allow smooth application.
  6. Do not apply in temperatures above 35°C or below 10°C.
  7. Do not apply to hot surfaces as doing so may result in difficult application and poor adhesion.
How to dispose responsibly
Unused paint

Clean using water and non-abrasive household detergent. To ensure minimum preparation when recoating, surfaces should be recoated before UltraClear™ Interior has worn away to expose bare timber. Clean to remove any waxes or polishes. When dry, sand to a uniform surface and wipe away dust. Apply one to two coats following application instructions. Where UltraClear™ Interior has worn away to expose bare timber it must be thoroughly removed and the surface prepared as per instructions for new timber.
