Not suitable for use over Porter’s Milk Paint, Porter’s Fresco or previously oiled timbers or timbers that are oily in nature*. Not suitable on exterior timber surfaces.
Kitchen and bathroom bench tops: May be subject to staining if used on timber bench tops where there will be heavy soiling from oil, food and make up.
Not recommended as a sealer for floor tiles as they may become slippery when wet.
Important information about damp substrates: Concrete slabs can be affected by condensation, moisture migration though the concrete from the soil underneath, broken or leaking pipes under the concrete, surface water leaks or flooding. Wooden interior floors can be affected by flooding, improper cleaning, cracks in foundations, or liquid spills. All these scenarios are the enemy of paints and clear coatings, and all sources of dampness (hydrostatic pressure), not only on the surface, but through the entire substrate, must be eliminated and the substrate thoroughly dried throughout prior to applying Clearcote. Applying Clearcote onto a damp substrate will prevent film cure, and will cause the Clearcote to appear cloudy and delaminate (peel off).
Test before use on timber with a high tannin content. Normally tannin bleed is undetectable, but if you are using Clearcote over a finish such as Wood Wash tannin bleed may be visible as a slight brown staining. Tannin bleed does not affect product performance. Porter’s Tannin Block should be considered to prevent this problem, and should be applied over the Wood Wash, and prior to application of Clearcote.
*Important information about timber:
Not suitable for use over timbers that are oily in nature, such as brush box, blackbutt, jarrah, spotted gum, teak and other hardwoods that have a natural oiliness or waxiness. These timbers should be well aged and allowed to dry out to allow the Clearcote to penetrate, otherwise the natural oils in the timber will repel the water-based Clearcote causing lack of adhesion, resulting in peeling and delamination.
Not suitable for exterior decking, due to the high oil content in decking timbers. refer to our website for a more suitable product.
Always test prior to use. Do not apply in high humidity, below 10°c or above 30°c. Note that this also applies to the surface temperature of the substrate. If applied to a surface that is hot from the sun, Clearcote may dry too fast and not cure correctly and this may result in loss of adhesion, cracking and therefore allow the ingress of moisture.
Not suitable for spraying.
The substrate should be a clean well-held surface free from loose material, dirt, dust, grease, oil and mould. Dust down before proceeding. Allow all paints and finishes to a dry a minimum of 72 hours prior to the application of Porter’s Clearcote. When being applied as a floor sealer, vacuum prior to application.
COMPLEMENTARY PRODUCTS:
Porter’s Clearcote is compatible for use over Porter’s Wood Wash and Porter’s Concrete Wash. Test before use as a slight colour variation may occur.
Do not apply paint if Relative Humidity is above 85% or temperature is within 3°C of Dew Point.
Do not apply if the surface temperature is greater than 30°C or below 10°C, or likely to fall below 10°C during the application or drying period.
Stir thoroughly prior to use. Apply two coats by brush or lambs’ wool applicator (recommended for floors). Touch dry in 30 minutes. Allow minimum 2 hours dry time between coats. Hard dry in 2 hours. Sand lightly between coats to remove any raised grain. Vacuum to remove dust before applying another coat. Allow 4-6 hours before allowing light foot traffic on floor surfaces. Full cure is achieved in 2 days. On exterior surfaces protect from rain for 3 days. Not suitable for spraying.
